Wow, been so long since I posted anything!
Well, I've been working very hard at taking it easy.

I'm also remembering how to enjoy my drawing work and not force ideas for my graduate (eek!) project, which starts at the end of September.

My Morocco Photos
The result of a severe lack of money post-holiday, grey English weather and plenty of time on my hands has given me plenty of creative breathing space.

My trip to Morocco showed me (apart from that I'm made to live somewhere hot) how much the people of the country make everything themselves, which got me thinking about all the crap I needlessly buy.  If you can make it, why buy it?  Not that I could make all my household furniture, but I'd give it a good go!

So, I've been tearing down wallpaper, putting up curtains, sanding and painting, stitching up clothes, sewing cushion covers and making mobiles.  And of course, drawing.  Even a little bit of animating!  Which I'll save from showing anyone until it's finished.

Mobile made from playing cards....

....With a few jingle bells at the end.

Hope you're all enjoying your summer.
And if you're in London being affected by the riots my thoughts are with you.
Stay safe!

  1. I whole-heartedly agree Jess, I totally get what you mean! When you visit countries like that you instantly realise the spoilt brats us westerners all are because of how much we demand NEW things all the time. And then you realise how controlled we are by our society to buybuyBUY new stuff!. It feels so good to recognise it, and then be able to step back and just think for a moment before going out and buying more, when we can make it ourselves or "make-do and mend" instead of throwing something old away :D The cushion is so cute and the cards are a pretty funky, I love pretty dangly things! (lol) I'm off to look at your Morocco photos!x

  2. I'm glad you brought my attention back to this! Because in the excitement at moving in to a new room and house for this year my mind's been wandering towards buying things for it - THAT I DON'T NEED! Well, I sort of need new bed sheets... and a clothes rail... So that's okay!
    But I'll stop at that.
It is pretty disgusting at how much we not only buy but throw away to buy even more. And what we buy is usually designed to become outdated or wear out quickly to keep consumerism going and going forever and ever.
    Let's fight it, Amy!
